Bulk Stone Calculator
How It Works
First, measure the length in feet, width in feet, and depth in inches of the space you want to fill. Then, choose a product in the calculator. It will provide you with an estimated total in tons required to fill that specific space.
To do the calculation yourself:
Cubic Yards = (length (ft.) * width(ft.) * (depth(in.)/12) / 27)
Total Weight = Cubic Yards * (Tons/Cubic Yard)
Ex: You have a 10 ft. x 10 ft. x 3 in. area to fill with gravel
0.93 Cubic Yards = (10 * 10 * (3 / 12)) / 27
Total Weight = 0.93 * 1.4 = 1.30
If your area is an irregular shape, divide it into various rectangles and add the totals together to get a rough estimate of the total tons required.
Material | Tons per cubic yard |
---|---|
Gravel (¼” – 2″) | 1.4 – 1.7 tons |
Rock (2″ – 6″) | 1.5 – 1.7 tons |
Crushed Stone 1/4″ – 2″ | 1.4 – 1.7 tons |
Crushed Stone 2″ – 6″ | 1.5 – 1.7 tons |
Cobblestones 4″ – 8″ | 1.3 – 1.6 tons |
Rip Rap 6″ – 9″ | 1.7 – 2 tons |
Lava Rock 3/8″ – 2″ | 0.65 – 0.9 tons |
Boulders | 1 – 1.5 tons |
